Inflation Is Rising Again

Smart Money Bro® — Monday Economic Brief

What happened last week:

• Inflation rose 0.6% in April
• Annual inflation moved up to 3.8%
• Core inflation rose 0.4% for the month
• Energy prices are up 17.9% over the past year
• Gasoline prices are up 28.4% over the past year
• The 10-year Treasury yield moved near 4.6%
• The 30-year Treasury yield moved above 5.1%
• The S&P 500 fell about 1.20% on Friday
• Yet stocks have remained surprisingly strong overall this year

👉 To many people… that does NOT feel like it adds up.

WHAT I’M WATCHING THIS WEEK:

• inflation expectations
• oil and gas prices
• bond yields
• consumer spending
• business earnings
• stock market reaction to inflation fears

👉 Big question:

Can businesses remain strong even while consumers still feel financial pressure?

One thing to understand:

Bond yields matter.

Higher bond yields usually mean investors want a bigger return for lending money to governments or corporations.

In plain language:

• borrowing money gets more expensive
• mortgage rates can stay higher
• car loans can cost more
• businesses may pay more to grow
• bonds can start looking more attractive than stocks

👉 That’s one reason rising bond yields can put pressure on the stock market.

Important reminders:

• the stock market is NOT the economy
• markets look forward
• companies can still make profits while consumers feel pressure
• emotional investing hurts people long-term
• discipline matters more than prediction

If you missed this week’s Sunday Economic Update, I break down:

• why inflation and strong markets can exist together
• why markets and everyday life feel disconnected
• how bond yields affect markets
• 3 things regular investors should focus on right now
